Mohangarh Fort is the last built fort of India completed in 1944 by His Highness Maharawal Jawahir Singh ji of Jaisalmer, who built this fort for his younger son Maharaj Hukam Singh ji. On completion the royal family used to come and stay at this fort from time to time to monitor administration, revenue and security in erstwhile Jaisalmer State. It also provided a quiet get away for the royal family.
Built of yellow sand stone and decorated with delicately carved screens, balconies and white Marble elephants all around the Fort, it is simply an architectural delight. The Zenana mahal (Ladies Section) and the Mardana mahal (Mens Section) have Italian Marble flooring and are decorated with colourful motif hand-made tiles on the walls.
Raj Kumar Dr. Jitendra Singh Ji (grandson of Maharawal Jawahir Singh Ji) has now opened the doors of the fort for guests to come and experience the life and charm of yesteryears in this arid and sandy landscape. The Fort has been a popular Bollywood destination site for shootings of films like Sarfarosh, Tashan, Mersel (Tollywood) to name a few.
